Exchanging data in the Internet has become a norm but how to exchange-data in a meaningful way is now an issue. XML is one of the standard formats used widely pertinent to data-exchange in the net. XML–based documents have emerged to be the technology for publishing documents to satisfy business application requirements. However, manually generated XML documents are time consuming and difficult to produce. Content and source documents need to be arranged in such a way that other people can understand and modify without much technical knowledge. A knowledge-based XML document generator helps in automating the translation process. This study developed a prototype of a knowledge-based XML Document Generator to illustrate the translation process that generates XML documents. The prototype takes existing XML schema from users and map it with a relational schema to produce XML tagged documents. This XML Document Generator includes a data warehouse which works as an analysing and an authoring expert. This paper elaborates on the process of extracting information and structuring the document. The application was developed through building a data analyser together with a document planner. Using it simplifies the complicated routine task of XML document generation in a productive way and timely manner.
