The peer-reviewed official journal of the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teknologi MARA.

"Medical & Health Reviews" (MHR) is a six-month periodical launched by the Faculty of Medicine, UiTM. The special focus of the journal is to provide editorials, review articles, expert opinions, guidelines that are relevant and applicable to our own unique situation, as they are written by our own local experts addressing issues in the context of a (fast) developing country such as Malaysia. The journal encourages experts to address certain specific issues of current interest which may have an impact not only on clinical medicine but also on basic sciences and relevant technologies. The MHR hope to impact a wide range of readers among students, postgraduates, clinicians, scientists, health workers, health administrators and policy makers.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Papers submitted to this journal should not have been published, in full or in part, to any other journal, nor should they be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Manuscripts should be submitted in electronic format, by email. Manuscripts should be written in English, using Microsoft words window and saved in Microsoft Word or compatible program. Spelling should conform to Standard English and should be consistent throughout the article. All manuscripts should be double-spaced, in Times New Roman, 12-point font, and saved as a .doc or .rtf file. Please do not “lock” or “page protect” your document. The body text should not exceed 3,000 words.

The paper should typically consist of the title page, abstract, main text, acknowledgements and followed by references.

Title Page
The title page should include the title (maximum 100 characters), a short running title (less than 50 characters), as well as the full names, professional degrees and current affiliation of each author. It should also contain the name, current address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address of the corresponding author.

Abstract
An abstract of not more than 250 words should appear at the beginning of the article. No abstract is needed for Letters to editor. A maximum of six keywords describing the content of the work shall be stated immediately below the abstract. Keywords should be obtained from Medical Subject Headings (MESH), available on the internet. Letters to editors shall not have tables or figures and the words should not exceed 500 words. (excluding a maximum of 10 references).

Abbreviations
Abbreviations should be defined when first used, and similar abbreviations or terms should be used throughout the article.

Drugs Citations
Drugs should be cited using generic names.

Font
Text, including title and author names, should be in 12-point, Times New Roman. Text in tables should be no smaller than 10-point font.

Margins
Margins should be 1” at the top and bottom and 1” on the left and right sides

Acknowledgments
The acknowledgments should be after the main text and before the reference list. Acknowledgments should include brief statements of assistance, support and declaration of competing interests where applicable.

Copyright Waiver
All listed authors must sign a statement transferring copyright of the submitted paper to MHR.

Authors and Consent
All authors must consent to publication. The responsibility for authorship, inclusions and exclusions of names, and the order of names, will lie with the first author of the paper. Only those persons who have made significant contributions to the paper should be authors. All authors bear intellectual responsibility for the paper, including responsibility for ensuring that no copyrighted material is submitted without proper consent from the source. The submission must carry the signatures of the first three authors plus the corresponding author. These signatories will bear responsibility for the authorship, inclusions and exclusions of names, and the order of names.

Copyright and Author responsibility
The author is responsible for obtaining permission for any copyrighted material published in this journal. Material published in MHR does not necessarily reflect the views of the Editor or of the Faculty of Medicine, UiTM. MHR does not accept responsibility for any statements made by the authors.

References
References should appear in the body of the paper as superscripts (e.g. 1,2), and listed in order at the end, as per the Vancouver forma (refer examples, below). Please be sure to enter the first and last page of the cited papers. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references cited. Unpublished doctoral theses may be cited (please state department, faculty, university, degree, and the year).

Review Process
All editorial communications regarding the manuscript will be received by the corresponding author. The dissemination of the manuscript information including the reviewers’ comments to co-authors is the corresponding author’s responsibility.

Authors will be notified once the manuscript is received. A reviewed manuscript, for which revisions are requested, needs to be resubmitted along with a cover letter stating exactly how the authors responded to reviewer comments. The revised manuscript may be sent back to the original reviewers for a subsequent read.
