Jurnal Kinabalu is published yearly by Penerbit UMS (one issue per year) as a platform of choice for highlighting the work of academics and scholars. It brings together academic articles based on research and theory as well as book reviews from the humanities and social sciences. The journal welcomes articles written in the Malay and English language. In fact, for the purpose of internationalization, we encourage submission of articles from authors beyond the boundary of Malaysia. All opinions expressed in this journal are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of UMS.

Use these instructions if you are preparing a manuscript to submit to Journal Kinabalu (eJK). Journal Kinabalu considers all manuscripts on the strict condition that
    • the manuscript is your own original work, and does not duplicate any other previously published work, including your own previously published work.
    • the manuscript has been submitted only to Journal Kinabalu; it is not unde consideration or peer review or accepted for publication or in press or published elsewhere.

Jurnal Kinabalu welcomes the submission of manuscripts in either Bahasa Melayu or the English language dealing with the social sciences, humanities and related fields. It should be type-written, with double line-spacing, in Microsoft Word (version 6.0 or above) on A4 paper with footnotes (if any) placed at the end of the article. Authors should follow the APA or Harvard citation style. Regardless of the style adopted, it must be consistent throughout the article. The length of the manuscripts, with 3 cm margins on all sides, should range from 20 to 25 pages. Each manuscript must have an English abstract of not more than 150 words.

Four copies of each manuscript should be submitted, along with its CD version, to the Chief Editor. A rejected manuscript will not be returned unless so requested by the author.

It is understood that a submitted manuscript has not been previously published elsewhere nor under consideration for publication by another publisher. Articles published in the Jurnal Kinabalu do not in any way reflect the views of the Editorial Board or the Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Responsibility for opinions and the accuracy of information in the articles published, needless to say, rests solely with the respective authors.

    Jurnal Kinabalu is published annually.

The manuscripts and editorial correspondence should be addressed to:
      Chief Editor Jurnal Kinabalu
Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage
      Universiti Malaysia Sabah
      Jalan UMS
      88400 Kota Kinabalu
      Sabah, Malaysia.

    General guidelines
    1. Manuscripts are accepted in English. Oxford English Dictionary spelling and punctuation are preferred.
    2. Manuscripts should be compiled in the following order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text; acknowledgements; references; appendices (as appropriate); table(s); figure
    3. Abstracts of 150-250 words are required for all manuscripts submitted. Each manuscript should have 5 to 7 keywords. The file should be provided in Word version 2007. All equations should be prepared either in Word using Equation editor or in MathType format.
    4. The paper should not exceed 20 typeset pages in length. Font Type: Times New Roman
    5. Font size 11 point. The paper must be formatted for A4 size (210mm x 297mm).
    6. Set the page margins exactly as follows: top, bottom, left and right for 1 inch.
    7. Section headings should be concise and numbered sequentially, using a decimal system for subsections.
    Numbered sections
Divide your article into clearly defined and numbered sections. Subsections should be numbered 1.1 (then 1.1.1, 1.1.2, ...), 1.2, etc. (the abstract is not included in section numbering). Any subsection may be given a brief heading. Each heading should appear on its own separate line.

All figures must be numbered in the order in which they appear in the manuscript (e.g. Figure 1, Figure 2). In multi-part figures, each part should be labelled (e.g. Figure 1(a), Figure 1(b)).

If there is more than one appendix, they should be identified as A, B, etc. Formulae and equations in appendices should be given separate numbering: Eq. (A.1), Eq. (A.2), etc.; in a subsequent appendix, Eq. (B.1) and so on. Similarly for tables and figures: Table A.1; Fig. A.1, etc.

Use APA style (http://www.apastyle.org). See example below:
